Senator Orrin Hatch (R) – Congress in 2012
What do you intend to accomplish in Congress in 2012 and how will it benefit Utah’s cities and towns?
My goal for 2012 is to continue to fight to take this country down a path to restore America’s prosperity, and strengthen our economy to ensure good paying jobs for current and future generations of Utahns.
Accomplishing this begins with reining in this administration’s runaway government spending. I’ve long championed a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution, which would put meaningful constitutional restraints on the power of Washington to spend beyond its means.
I will also be continuing to push for comprehensive tax reforms based on President Reagan’s criteria of fairness, growth and simplicity. Reforming our onerous tax code will restore our nation’s fiscal integrity and promote economic growth. This will allow Utah families to keep more of their hard-earned money, and allow for small Utah businesses to invest in themselves and create jobs.
In addition, I will work toward fully repealing the unconstitutional $2.6 trillion dollar partisan health law, which will lead toward job creation, economic growth, and lasting entitlement reform. This will benefit Utahns in the form of economic prosperity, and a brighter future for our children and grandchildren.
I’m also going to push for a long term energy strategy that will create jobs and lower energy costs for Utahns. The Bureau of Land Management is stalling economic investment and job creation by withholding more than $100 million worth of leases in Utah and Wyoming that it has already auctioned off. I’m working on ways to push this administration to cede ownership and control of the lands within Utah’s borders back to the state, allowing us to develop a long-term energy strategy that works for Utahns, resulting in more jobs and lower energy costs.
What did you do during the 2011 holiday season?
I had a wonderful holiday season with my wife Elaine and our beautiful family.
